A Little History of French Craftsmanship - Luxury of Millinery

Craftsmanship has long been part of the luxury mantra – and never more so than now.

There is something of a symbolic, almost talisman-like quality attached to it. Topping the list of attributes that define luxury brands are superior quality, craftsmanship and design. One of the main fashion trends is that interest in logos would soon be replaced by searching questions about the quality of the hides or how many stitches per inch went into the making of our handbags. It would be back-to-basics luxury.

So if the renewed focus on craftsmanship is real, what can we explain about French Millinery expertise? We could talk about Gabrielle Chanel who was one of the pioneers in 1910 to open a first shop at 21 rue Cambon, Paris, Creating Hats under the name "Chanels modes" Favored by the most famous french actresses of this time, her designs help to establish her reputation.

And what about, La Maison Michel known for its sophisticated yet imaginative collections and who is a leading fashion house when it comes to millinery since 1936. In 1980, the brand started creating its signature, wide-brimmed straw hats especially for the haute couture and pret-a-porter collections of fashion houses such as Chanel, Givenchy, Nina Ricci, Laroche, Lanvin and Christian Lacroix,... Those luxury craftmanship Houses still remain the best of worldwide millinery.
